Item Description

8vo. 9 x 6.5 inches. 127 pp., including details of The BB Society at the end. Bound in original black cloth, gilt, with gilt block, in pictorial dust wrapper. A fine copy. Illustrated by scraperboard vignette figures throughout text and in preliminaries, including author portrait. The signature on the dedication page to Ray 'Badger' Walker (see Foreword) is a facsimile from the manuscript of 1990 (see p.124). A final account of wildfowling from a manuscript completed shortly the author's death. It was first published in a numbered edition in 2010 and this is the first open edition. The editor, Bryan Holden, set up the publisher, Roseworld Productions Limited in 2000 and was Hon. Secretary of the BB Society, also founded in 2000. Denys James Watkins-Pitchford (1905-90), naturalist, illustrator and children's author, was born in Northants, attended the Royal College of Art and taught at Rugby School for seventeen years from 1930. He wrote under the pseudonym 'B. B.' (a reference to the size of lead shot he favoured), but used his real name as illustrator.
