First editions of the four volumes of the Collected Papers of Sigmund Freud, 1924-25 (Volume V, Miscellaneous papers, 1888-1938 did not appear until 1950), translated from the German. Volumes II-IV were jointly published by The Institute of Psycho-Analysis and the Hogarth Press of Leonard and Virginia Woolf) (founded 1917). This reflected their interest in the developing technique of psychoanalysis. First editions of the four volumes to be published during Freud's lifetime are scarce.
