8vo. 5.75 x 7.75 inches. xvi + 215 + [1] pp. Main text in Latin with English text opposite. Bound in original vellum, gilt. deckled edges. A little wear to extremities and some worming at foot of first 11 pages. Slight browning of flyleaves, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 8 plates, including frontispiece and by 4 vignettes. Parallel Latin and English texts of the poems of Gaius Valerius Catullus (c.84-54 BC), poet of the late Roman Republic from the Verona region. Some of the most notable poems are erotic in nature and concern the relationship of Catullus with his married lover, 'Lesbia,' (thought to be Clodia Metelli), her other five lovers also appearing in the text. Limited private press edition, charmingly illustrated by Vera Willoughby (1870-1939), Hungarian born artist, illustrator and designer of posters for London Underground.
