The Letters Patent under the Great Seal were issued open and addressed to all. During the Tudor period they comprised appointments to offices, charters of incorporation and grants of liberties, congés d'élire relating to the appointment of bishops, creations of nobility, denization of aliens, grants and leases of, and licences to alienate Crown lands, grants of wardships, various privileges and dispensations, including grants of monopolies, pardons, presentations to ecclesiastical benefices in the Crown's gift and royal commissions. Part of a series which began publication in 1939.
