Item Description
8vo. 6 x 8.5 inches. [vi] + 243 pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt, in dust wrapper, which has edge wear and chips, including head and tail of spine; otherwise a very good copy. Described as autobiographical fiction, these ten explicit stream of consciousness short stories by Henry Miller (1891-1980), written in a suburb of Paris, originally appeared as part of the Obelisk Trilogy. Black Spring was published by the Obelisk Press, Paris, 1936, in between his two well known Tropic titles. Obscenity laws prevented its publication in the US until 1963 when the Grove Press published Black Spring, with other works by Miller. It is dedicated to Anais Nin, his lover who supported him in Paris
