8vo. 9 x 6 inches. 160 + [1] pp. Bound in quarter maroon cloth, gilt, over decorated stiff board, in slipcase. Illustrated by 8 tinted lithograph plates, including frontispiece. High quality Folio Society production of Virginia Woolf's last novel, first published unrevised soon after her death in 1941. It's setting is an English pageant aspiring to depict the breadth of English history, with its scenes being intermingled with the lives of the audience. The introduction was by the novelist's nephew, Quentin Bell (1910-96), artist, art historian and biographer.
