8vo. 7 x 8.5 inches. xxiv + 214 + [1] pp. Title page in blue and black. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt and black titles and block on front board. Bevelled boards. Deckled edges. Minor wear to extremities, fly leaves and edges browned and a little foxing, largely confined to preliminaries; otherwise a very good copy. Salisbury bookseller's label on front pastedown. Illustrated by 12 monochrome and colour plates, including frontispiece, by 12 maps in text and by numerous full page and vignette drawings in text, including the preliminaries, in colour and monochrome and some whole page. Delightful work, full of fine drawings by Donald Maxwell (1877-1936). The greater part of the book relates to the author's overseas travel, including Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Austria and the Adriatic. Two chapters describe journeys in Kent, The Pilgrims' Way and the Stour at Canterbury.
