A List Of Monumental Brasses Remaining In The County Of Kent In 1922.
Headley Brothers, Invicta Press.
With notes of some lost examples.
8vo. 5.75 x 8.5 inches. 245 pp. Bound in original dark green cloth, gilt. A little wear to extremities and occasional margin foxing, but otherwise a very good copy. Signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 32 black and white plates at end. A fine copy of this scarce and important list of Kent brasses, The list of subscribers amounts to 141 copies, so it is likely that only slightly more than that figure were printed. The principal arrangement is by alphabetical order of places, followed by a chronological list, a list of lost brasses and an index of persons and places. Compiled by Ralph Hare Griffin (1854-1941), barrister, Registrar of Patents and Designs and Secretary of the Society of Antiquaries, 1921-27 and by Mill Stephenson (1857-1937), Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and author of Monumental Brasses in the British Isles (1926). I have no doubt that a number of the brasses recorded here have been lost in the nearly hundred years since this list was printed.
