Illustrated by 60 colour plates by Shirley Slocombe, including two frontispieces, with captioned tissue guards, and by 935 black and white photographs, including facsimiles. Decorated by title page vignettes and by initials. Four substantial and well illustrated volumes, first published 1904-08, on the history of English furniture to 1800, still in use as a reference source today. Percy Macquoid (1852-1925), started his career as a theatrical designer and later established his reputation as a connoisseur and collector of English furniture.
