Some wear to extremities, including spine, but otherwise a very good copy. 1984 signature of Edward Carpenter, historian of Romney Marsh, on title page. Illustrated by 8 pages of black and white plates and by map, plan and tables. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A history of the Kent village of Appledore located on the escarpment just above Romney Marsh, first published 1973. Sir John Winnifrith (1908-94) was educated at Westminster and Christ Church, Oxford and was a senior cicvil servant during the War. He served as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture. 1959-67.
