Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A standard work on British seaweeds for many years, this is a systematic account of 750 species of algae. At the end is a list of the principal authors who wrote on the subject. Lily Newton (1893-1981) moved from the British Museum (Natural History) to the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 1928, becoming Professor of Botany in 1930. A reprint of the first edition of 1931.
