Illustrated throughout by facsimiles of engravings. The largest collection of printing equipment illustrations and advertisements to date, from presses little different in principal from that of Gutenberg to the mechanical marvels of the 1890s. The first iron hand press appeared in 1800. Harold Sterne (b.1929) spent a lifetime in the Us printing industry and continued to collect old presses and trade catalogues after retiring in 1990. The first edition of this title was published in 1978.
