50 Views Of Aldershot Farnham, Farnboro Sandhurst And Bisley.
[n.d., c. 1890]
Oblong 8vo. 8.5 x 5.75 inches. Concertina type view-book of sepia glazed lithographs, extending to c.80 inches, containing 50 different images. Printed in Germany. Bound in red cloth, decorated gilt, with gilt title on front board and by blind stamping on rear board. A very good copy. This type of view-book originates in Germany and was printed there. It is a late example of the curious mixture of photograph and engraving which were prolific from about 1875 to 1895, when photography finally won the day. This example must date from after 1885 as it shows the Duke of Wellington statue, originally erected on the Wellington Arch in London in 1846 and transferred to Aldershot Garrison in 1885.
